Also, it would ensure that any water will not be absorbed by the lumber in the barn which could cause it to rot and have to be replaced.
#3 - Building Orientation
It is very important that you make sure that you look at which direction the wind blows towards where you are planning to build your structure. Then, using your hay barn plans, make sure that the opening to it is placed on the side opposite to where the wind will be hardest. Not only will this ensure that the items within the structure are taken care of, it is going to reduce the amount of wind loads placed on it.
