Xbox 360 Red Ring Of Death - What Xbox 360 Red Ring Of Death Fix Works Miracles?
Well after I first started trying to get a fix for my Xbox 360 RROD, I got confused by the different information out there. There's a gazillion sites, each hawking their instructions (commonly $24.95. You can get some for free) and you also have the multitudes of YouTube videos claiming to have located the miracle solution. The three that I will review are what appear to be amongst the most common (and sometimes most idiotic).
Number #1 - The Towel Trick - It goes something similar to this: You take the hard drive off, wrap the entire machine in a towel to avoid the excess heat from escaping, turn the console on for about 15 minutes to cook (some instructions advocate 1 hour), shut it down, unplug it for an hour, plug it back in and like magic it functions. But why? I have not heard a decent justification yet. Here is one of the explanations..."the system gets so hot that it melts the solder that was cracking to the set off the red lights in the first place"..... Listed below are some probable hazards as noted in the same directions "could possibly damage other parts of the Xbox".... "The unit could catch on fire it gets so hot". I can say I am going to rate this as the 2nd most preposterous Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death repair from the three in consideration. Recommendation: Don't use this fix.
Number #2 - The Ice Bath - I do not even want to explain how to do this. Quite simply, a rubbermaid tub is filled with ice water, some vinegar is added in, the Xbox 360 is unplugged and immersed within the water/vinegar mixture. After so many minutes the console is removed, drained of water and promptly plugged back in. Need I say more. I actually heard of a kid who attempted this and was severely shocked. This as numerous other fixes was presented as a youtube video. It is really quite reckless and should be eliminated. This repair is easily the most ridiculous repair of the three in consideration. Recommendation: Don't even think about employing this fix in the event you value your wellbeing.
Number #3 - X-Clamp Repair - This is the only authentic fix I've found thus far. It is as fixed as it gets. Do not use it however if your Xbox 360 is still under warranty. Send the console to Microsoft and let them honor the warranty. On the other hand, if the seal is broken and/or it may not be under warranty this fix is the best choice. This is the repair in a nutshell; you open the console, take away the x-clamps, cleanup the old thermal paste, use new thermal paste on, change the x-clamps with screws and washers, reassemble the console, overheat, let it cool off and it works on something like 90% of the units. Suggestion: Use this Xbox 360 3 Red Light Error repair.
